The Financial Ombudsman Service (‘FOS’) is intended to be a faster, cheaper and informal alternative to the courts. Despite that, cases can still be complex, and even drag on for years. A final decision of the FOS, in the vast majority of cases, represents the end of a matter, but not always.
Being faced with a financial services firm or adviser who cannot, or refuses to, comply with a FOS final decision can be a daunting and stressful prospect, especially where a case has already dragged on. Having to navigate the complex minefield of enforcement by yourself can be equally as unattractive.
