In a previous Alpha Alert, we informed you that the temporary COVID-19 adjusted right to work check measures were due to end on 20 June 2021, however, this has been further extended to 31 August 2021.
Until this date:
- Checks can be carried out over video call; and
- Job applicants and existing workers can send scanned documents or a photo of documents for checks using email or a mobile app, rather than sending original copies.
From 31 August 2021, employers must revert back to the full process:
- Employers must check an applicant’s original documents, or check the individual’s right to work online through the government system; and
Where the adjusted process has been utilised, employers will not be required to carry out retrospective checks – i.e. they will not have to request copies of original documents from those engaged and checked under the adjusted process from 30 March 2020 to 30 August 2021.
